Two Easy Trekking Expeditions For A Week Trip To The Mountains

It is ironic how despite innumerable technological advancements, humans still struggle at taking time out for their hobbies and favorite activities. Life has become a meaningless cycle of working hard day and night that only pays off in the form of short-lived material happiness extracting any philosophical meaning that there could be to it. With the world moving supersonic the struggle of taking a break from work life and enjoying the act of living is more real than ever these days.

I realized this just recently when I bumped into my friends and asked them to join me on a 15 days long expedition to the Himalayas. I was disappointed to find that none of them could make it to the trip because of their hectic corporate lives, most of them could only take out about a week off for a holiday and that is when I realized how much these short and easy 5 days long expeditions could mean to the world.

So if you have been looking out for short trekking expeditions that can be interesting, easy as well as thrilling, here I am, at your rescue with two of my personal favorite 5 days long trekking expeditions -

SHAM VALLEY TREK -

Based in Ladakh, the Sham Valley Trek is a five days long expedition that begins at Leh, passes through Yangthang- Hemis Shukpachan and Temisgam, finally looping back to Leh. The total distance covered during this trek is 32kms with the highest region being the peak of Tsermangchan La resting at an altitude of 12,715 ft which is attempted on the 3rd day of the expedition. It is an easy and refreshing Trek which is suitable for beginners as well as those who wish to chill in the realm of nature's bounty. It is also known as the Baby Trek of Ladakh for its short and crisp itinerary.

The Sham Valley Trek remains accessible throughout the year and is an absolute goldmine for anyone who maybe interested in an adventurous as well as a relaxing trekking expedition. Based on your taste in seasons, you can visit the ShamValley Trek during various peak seasons to witness a plethora of mind-boggling, vibrant landscapes. The Sham Valley Trek is also one of the few Ladakhi treks that give trekkers an opportunity to have a fair share of glimpse at the lives of the locals and their traditional practices- The experience at the Sham Valley Trek is unique, enthralling and totally worth the investment of time and energy!

HAMPTA PASS TREK -

Based in the Pir Panjal Range of the state of Himachal Pradesh, the Hampta Pass Trek is a five day long, mind-blowing crossover trek that begins from the lush green hillstation of Manali of the Kullu District of Himachal Pradesh passing through Chika- Balu Ka Ghera- Hampta Pass- Siagoru- Chatru and Chandratal looping back to Manali. It is an easy to moderate grade trek spanning over a distance of 26kms. The highest region accessed during the expedition is the Hampta Pass which lies at an altitude of 14,100 ft which is attempted on the 3rd day of the expedition.

Camping at Siagoru which is the coldest place in the entire expedition is done on the same night. The Hampta Pass is basically a serene and enchanting corridor that lies between Lahaul's Chandra Valley and the Kullu Valley of Himachal Pradesh. The last and one of the key highlights of the Hampta Pass is the visit to Chandratal from Chatru. Chandratal is an emerald blue lake situated on the Samudra Tapu Plateau with mighty, robust mountains in the backdrop.

It is an extremely refreshing sight and one of the most sought after lakes of India. The best time to hop onto this expedition is during the months of June, July, August and September since the weather and the overall ambiance of the region is most hospitable during those months. All in all, the Hampta Pass Trek is a must-do for trekking enthusiasts interested in exploring and witnessing the exquisite beauty of remote mountain regions.

Short treks are easy to find but finding short yet equally thrilling, fascinating and exciting treks can be a tedious task. The Sham Valley Trek and the Hampta Pass Trek fit the bill perfectly and that is why both of these should definitely be on the list of your upcoming treks.
